  2. Good news! Uganda’s “jail the gays” bill, which was signed in February by Uganda’s president, was declared “null and void.”
Unfortunately, the end of this bill doesn’t necessarily mean the end of anti-gay sentiment in the country that has become notorious for its harsh treatment of LGBT citizens. It was actually invalidated based on a technicality.

  4. An 18-year-old girl’s selfies have been going viral on Tumblr. Her name is Yasmeen, she’s from California, she wears the hijab, and she’s telling the world what it’s like to be a hijabi in America. It involves a lot of stupid comments and questions, unfortunately.

  6. A bipartisan group of senators introduced a bill today that aims to combat the epidemic of sexual assault on college campuses across the country. The plan is to require schools to publish anonymous surveys concerning assault on campuses and heavily penalize universities — up to $150,000 per offense — that don’t comply with some of the law’s requirements.

  8. They want this case to set a precedent that Russians can speak publicly on sensitive political issues, even if this speech is not supported by majority. This is a case about freedom of expression and fair trial first of all.

Pavel Chikov, legal representative for Russian punk band Pussy Riot, is helping two of the group’s members sue their government. Maria Alyokhina and Nadezhda Tolokonnikova served 21 months in prison and pre-trial confinement over a “punk prayer” protest at a Moscow cathedral in 2012. They say the investigation and prosecution against them violated their rights and basically were torture
